More health, more value: Biorigin’s mission in the global market

Thaila, can you please tell us about Biorigin?

Biorigin was founded in 2003 as part of the Zilor group and has built a solid trajectory in biotechnology and innovation. However, the Animal Nutrition business began in 1994 with inactive dry yeast from the ethanol fermentation process. Over the past 30 years, the company has specialized in transforming yeast into natural-origin ingredients that contribute to the health and well-being of both animals and people.

Today, we are present in more than 60 countries, and we have a production unit, a warehouse, and a research and development center that keeps us close to our customers and attentive to market needs. Biorigin is a company that combines science, innovation, and sustainability, and also proximity: our commitment is to stand side by side with our partners and understand their challenges. After an inspiring team effort to redefine our strategy, we are now recognized as a global reference for yeast-based products in aquaculture and the pet industry, with unquestionable quality standards and product performance.

How do Biorigin’s biotechnological processes, combined with research, contribute to transforming ingredients into innovative solutions?

Biotechnological processes are at the heart of Biorigin. We work with yeast as our central organism and, from it, develop ingredients that go far beyond raw material: they become functional solutions. This is only possible because we combine cutting-edge technology with applied research that validates these benefits and delivers consistent results.

In addition, we have a very important factor: the work of a multidisciplinary team. Our sales, product, marketing, R&D, and operations teams work together to understand the needs of our target markets and seek the best solutions that combine what we can offer with what the market desires. This collaborative work brings us even closer to our customers and partners, allowing us to innovate and grow together.

What are the main differentiators of yeast-derived solutions, and how do these ingredients contribute to adding value to the pet food market?

The pet market is one of the most demanding, valuing quality, nutritional consistency, performance, and product differentiation. Our ingredients are versatile, adaptable to various customization options, and support all stages of a pet’s life. They contribute to improving palatability, promoting quality and longevity, and are rich in functional components such as beta-glucans, mannan-oligosaccharides, and nucleotides, which strengthen the immune system, balance the intestinal microbiota, and improve food digestibility. The yeast-based ingredients are fully aligned with the main market trends: natural, clean label, sustainable, recycled, functional, and palatable.

And how do they support aquaculture producers?

Our commitment is to deliver safe food to people worldwide. We develop solutions that make production more profitable, efficient, and sustainable. Our yeast-derived ingredients directly strengthen animals’ immune systems, reducing disease incidence and, consequently, the need for antibiotics. This translates into better zootechnical performance, greater food safety, and alignment with a market increasingly focused on sustainability. Additionally, our solutions promote balanced growth and more efficient feed conversion, generating higher productivity and profitability for producers. We work side by side with our customers, providing technical and scientific support to help them strategically apply our ingredients and achieve consistent results.

How do Biorigin’s innovative solutions integrate with Phileo, and what benefits does this partnership offer to customers?

The integration of Biorigin’s solutions with Phileo represents a strategic union that further enhances the value we deliver to our customers. Biorigin brings its expertise in biotechnology applied to pets and aquaculture, while Phileo complements this with a broad, globally recognized portfolio in fermentation and probiotics. All this is supported by highly qualified teams from both companies and by the Lesaffre Group’s research and innovation infrastructure.

For customers, the benefit is access to innovative, sustainable, and scientifically validated solutions, supported by two companies that share the same vision of promoting health and performance through biotechnology. With a structured sales force and technical expertise, we can be even closer to our customers, understanding their challenges and delivering the right solutions on time.

Regarding sustainability, how is it integrated into Biorigin and Phileo’s strategies, contributing to a more responsible production chain?

Sustainability is at the heart of Biorigin and Phileo. Both companies serve the animal nutrition market, from the creation of our products, based on clean biotechnology, to the positive impact they generate on the environment; sustainability is present at every stage.

By transforming microorganisms into functional ingredients, we provide alternatives that reduce the need for antibiotics, encourage responsible practices such as upcycling, and contribute to a more balanced and secure production chain. In addition, integration between the two companies expands our production capacity, ensuring greater logistical efficiency, optimizing local resources, and enhancing supply security. Sustainability is not just a guideline; it is part of our identity and the commitment we make to customers, partners, and society.

To conclude, would you like to leave a final message?

We are living in a moment of growth and transformation, in which Biorigin’s integration with Phileo opens opportunities for new businesses, innovations, and, most importantly, for people. I see the future with enthusiasm and believe that, together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and build this new path with ethics, responsibility, and respect for people and the market. Our commitment is to stand side by side with our people and customers, to understand their challenges, and celebrate their achievements together. This union makes us even stronger and better prepared to move forward and contribute to a more sustainable and responsible business.
