A Dog’s Nose for Health: Phileo’s Support for the Inspiring NOSAIS Project

At Phileo, we are committed to harnessing the power of nature and innovation to improve the well-being of both animals and humans. This philosophy has led us to forge a partnership with NOSAIS, an innovative charitable organization that is revolutionizing the field of medical detection through the extraordinary sense of smell of our canine companions.

For millennia, dogs have been faithful companions to humankind, but in recent decades, their capabilities have proven to be far more than just that of a loyal pet. The advent of medical detection by dogs, particularly through pioneering programs like NOSAIS, has opened up exciting new possibilities for utilizing canine olfaction to enhance human health.

Leveraging the dogs’ extraordinary sense of smell, which can detect compounds associated with various diseases and medical conditions, NOSAIS has developed specialized training protocols. These protocols enable dogs to identify a wide range of illnesses, from cancer and infectious diseases to neurological disorders.

“The work that NOSAIS is doing is truly inspiring,” says Gildas Joalland, Strategy Director at Phileo. “By harnessing the incredible capabilities of our canine friends, they are making significant strides in early disease detection, which can have a profound impact on patient outcomes and quality of life.”

Phileo is proud to support NOSAIS in their mission to train dogs locally and provide vulnerable communities with greater opportunities for early diagnosis and recovery. One such project, soon to be implemented in Benin, will focus on the early detection of breast cancer, a critical issue in regions with limited access to traditional medical screening.

“This project combines science, innovation, and solidarity – all values that are deeply rooted in Phileo’s ethos,” explains Gildas. “We are thrilled to contribute to this endeavor, which has the potential to transform lives and make a tangible difference in the communities we serve.”

With nearly 300 million olfactory receptors, dogs possess an unparalleled ability to identify compounds linked to severe illnesses. NOSAIS’ innovative approach harnesses this natural talent, empowering communities to take charge of their health and well-being.
